Bamboo

NATURAL & SUSTAINABLE

Bamboo elements are becoming more and more common, also in our products. The material is an excellent alternative to tropical hardwood. Bamboo grows faster, so it can be harvested earlier. Forests of tropical hardwood take 60 to 120 years to recover from the logging process, while bamboo can be harvested every 4 to 6 years. The plant recovers quickly. In fact, regular felling of a bamboo forest is even necessary.

MOSO BAMBOO X-treme is a material that is obtained by heating bamboo fibers and then pressing them under high pressure. This durability process results in the highest quality bamboo products. It is very hard and therefore extremely suitable for outdoor use.

CERTIFICATE

FSC 100% + EPD certification (EN 15804)
FSC 100% bamboo certification
FSC is seen worldwide as the best and strictest certification system for sustainable forest management. FSC has been developed to combat the continuous destruction of forests worldwide. Although bamboo never deforests thanks to the annual harvest cycle, bamboo with FSC certification is still requested in construction projects. Since 2008, bamboo has been included in the FSC system, our exclusive supplier MOSO was one of the first companies with FSC certification for bamboo.

EPD certification (EN 15804)
An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) describes the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle. For the certificate, the life cycle analysis must be prepared for a particular product. Based on this, it is examined whether the product has a sustainable life cycle. According to EN 15804, MOSO Bamboo X-treme has a negative CO2 impact. This means that it captures more CO2 than is released during its life cycle.

DURABILITY CLASS

Class 1 (NEN-EN350)

The durability class is the classification of wood species on endurance, it gives an indication of the lifespan of wood species. For this natural durability against fungi and the like, there are five classes from 1 (very durable) to 5 (not durable), according to NEN-EN-350-2. MOSO BAMBOO X-treme lasts 25 years and falls under durability class 2.

DURABILITY

  • Checkmark aan het laden
Bamboo is a fast-growing plant, and therefore an endless resource.
  • Checkmark aan het laden
Bamboo can be harvested without eroding.
  • Checkmark aan het laden
CO2 negative throughout the life cycle.

Through photosynthesis, under the influence of sunlight, bamboo converts water and carbon dioxide (CO2) into glucose (building block for biomass), water and oxygen. The CO2 is then stored in the material for as long as the product is in use, and even longer if the material is reused or recycled, for example into chipboard. The amount of CO2 can be as high as 1,696 tonnes of CO2 per m3 of bamboo.

WARRANTY PERIOD

5 years

Bamboo is a versatile material: hard, stable and with a natural look. The properties of bamboo are equal or even superior to most hardwood species. That's why we give a 5-year, linearly descending warranty on bamboo.

MAINTENANCE

Twice a year

Without maintenance, bamboo has a natural greying. This ageing caused by UV radiation. To preserve the original colour of bamboo, you can treat the material with an oil twice a year.
