Corten steel

WARM & POWERFUL

Corten steel gives gardens a powerful and warm appearance. This is due to the orange-brown colour of the material. The name corten steel is derived from Corrosive Tensile steel, which stands for corrosive steel with a high tensile strength. Corrosive means that the steel reacts with environmental factors such as oxygen and moisture. Tensile strength is a mechanical property that determines how the material can be loaded. Corten steel has a high tensile strength and can therefore be subjected to heavy loads continuously. This makes it suitable for our products, but also, for example, for infrastructural constructions such as bridges.

Another common name for corten steel is weathering steel: weather conditions have a positive influence on the material. The material corten steel is a metal alloy consisting of iron, to which copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium have been added. When exposed to the outside air, the material gets covered with a protective layer of rust due to corrosion. This natural rust layer is the protection against further corrosion. As a result, our products have a very long lifespan.

MATERIAL

S355J0WP+AR (EN10025-5)

We use the same steel for all our corten steel products; S355J0WP+AR ( EN10025-5). Specified as structural steel with improved resistance to atmospheric corrosion. This is an A-quality corten steel with a very good workability for our production. + AR means that the products are explicitly delivered without a special roller and/or heat treatment condition.

This steel is supplied to us in accordance with the European NEN standard EN10025-5, which stipulates what characteristics of the steel must be met.

CERTIFICATION

Quality (EN10204-3.1)

The corten steel we use is always checked for quality. Our suppliers comply with the European EN10204-3.1 NEN standard. Each batch receives quality and test reports, carried out by a separate department at the supplier. With this, they deliver according to the certificate, so we can be sure that we can produce top quality products and we guarantee efficient processes in our factory.

MATERIAL THICKNESS

1.5 to 15 mm

We design our products to last a long time and use specific material thicknesses to suit the application. Depending on this, we use corten steel ranging from 1.5 to 15 mm thick.

Rusting process
The rusting process of corten steel starts with a thin rust layer which forms a stable barrier against further corrosion. This protective layer develops a rich patina which makes corten steel durable and aesthetic.
DURABILITY

Corten steel is sustainable and fully recyclable. Because the material lasts for a long time, it contributes to less waste and a lower demand for replacement materials. In addition, corten steel requires very little maintenance, which means that no harmful cleaning agents or chemicals need to be used.

WARRANTY PERIOD

5 years

We set strict requirements for the purchased materials, which we then process ourselves in our modern factories. As a result, we give a 5-year, linearly descending warranty on all corten steel products. This emphasises confidence in the durability and quality of our products.

MAINTENANCE

Once a year

Corten steel requires little maintenance. We recommend rinsing the products once a year or spraying them with tap water to remove dirt (such as bird droppings, leaves, etc.). That's better for the material, and the products look like new again!
